Designer of Piaggio Vespa Is Honored by Former Employer: New York Times Wheels Blog

One of the most influential but commonly overlooked designers of the 20th century is getting his due.
Few people did more to shape the look of transportation than Corradino D’Ascanio, the frustrated helicopter designer who created the Piaggio Vespa, or wasp, and its three-wheel sibling, the Ape, or bee.
The wasp and the bee, before cars, brought mobility to the recovering postwar cities of Europe and the booming cities of the emerging world.
